Driven by the major supermarkets, growth in the fresh produce sector (particularly pre-washed, prepared leaf salads, vegetables and salads) reflects consumer demand for greater convenience. This sector presents some unique packaging challenges.
The quality of fresh produce depends on the type of packaging and packaging method utilised. Ideally packs should slow down the natural breakdown process of the product, whilst maintaining carbon dioxide and moisture vapour levels and accommodating various oxygen transmission rates through the material in order to extend shelf-life.
Anti-mist/anti-fog films are commonly used to prevent moisture clinging to the inside of packs spoiling the product appearance. This method disperses the droplets but does not rid the pack of excess moisture. Flexible film is the most widely used packaging for this type of application, especially where there has been a significant swing from manual to automated flow wrapping.
Condensation can be an issue for many moist products, leading to poor pack appearance. Our BOPP anti-mist/anti-fog films minimise these problems. They have a proven record in vertical form fill and lamination applications
Propafilm™ AF provides anti-mist/anti-fog properties on one side and is suitable for laminations and is printable.
Propafilm™ RK+ has excellent anti-mist/anti-fog performance. It has been designed to offer a very good seal strength. Propafilm™ RXP+ provides a very wide seal range with a peelable seal opening. Both films are usually used in gas flush applications where the atmosphere in the pack is optimised to extend shelf-life providing a high barrier to water vapour, gases and aroma.
Propafilm™ CSL has an excellent water vapour barrier to enhance product protection and is ideal for board lamination.
