Analytical Scientist

Innovia Films is a leading global manufacturer of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films, supplying highly differentiated speciality products into the packaging, labels, tobacco overwrap and securities markets.

A vacancy has arisen in our global Research and Development team based in Wigton, Cumbria for a full-time Analytical Scientist, focusing on Microscopy. Reporting to the New Product Development Manager, the job will include:

  • Detailed analysis to contribute to the development of new products and processes for Innovia.
  • Providing troubleshooting and material identification to support the wider Innovia manufacturing and commercial teams.
  • Enhance capability through method development.
  • Provide detailed interpretation and reporting of findings to a variety of business functions and locations.
  • Contribute to maintaining the laboratory facilities through calibration and equipment maintenance
Essential attributes include being a logical thinker with an eye for detail; having the patience and perseverance to complete complex tasks and being able to organise and manage their own time. The ability to work in a team and deliver results under pressure with tight timescales is also important.

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a scientific discipline and have experience of working in a laboratory environment. Experience in a range of techniques, including Optical Microscopy, SEM, Optical Profilometry, Atomic Force and Raman Microscopy would be a benefit but not essential as training will be provided.
